She plays the veena with two arms and in her other two arms she holds a copy of the vedas as well as prayer malas.  The four Vedas, books of universal knowledge, were her offspring.  Her mount, the swan, personifies pure knowledge and her herald, the peacock, is a symbol of the arts.
